Maat is a loose interpretation of a hand lettered alphabet by the late Dutch designer Jurrian Schrofer called Sans Serious which was included in Wim Crouwel’s publication Letters of Maat. It is inflected with a bit of influence from British designer Ken Garland’s similar lettering from the cover of his textbook, The Graphics Handbook. Maat derives its name from the title of Crouwel’s booklet.

Maat is display type for use in materials that are evocative of the past or future: band logos, album packaging, posters, zines, books, or fashion materials.

Maat is a sleek, reductive font, thoroughly spaced, and evocative of a distant future while simultaneously harking back to simpler Modern times. It would look right at home on the side of a spaceship or on a Dutch poster.
